Last chance for you Covergirl coupons

If you still have some of those awesome Covergirl $8/2 coupons that expire 10/31, you have one more day to use them.  I have found the best deals at Rite Aid with the buy one get one half off sale they have had for most of October.  Mix and match some of the less expensive lip glosses, eye liners, mascaras, eye shadows, and blushes for deals that will cost you less that a dollar or 2.  Tonight I got $53.60 in make-up for $2.91, but $2.81 of that was tax, which means that I only spent .10 cents on the make-up!  Whoo-Hoo!

Tomorrow is the last day to get these deals, so hurry!

Great coupon deal at krogers!

While at krogers tonight I came across a unadvertised special on Oral-b battery powered toothbrushes.  They regularly sell for just under $8 but were marked down to $3.74, with the $3/1 oral-b battery powered toothbrush coupon (exp.10/31) you can get them for .74 cents each!

Great deal! Happy Shopping!!!

Kroger Coupon Policy Update

There is a lot of negative reaction concerning the new coupon policy just released from Krogers. They finally posted the coupon policy on the kroger facebook page, at it is as clear as...... um, ok, we are all scratching our heads trying to interpret it. So, I when I was at krogers tonight I had a long talk with a cashier, who at my store was unaware of any changes in the coupon policy.  And I am hoping it stays that way.

But she did she shed a little unofficial light on why Krogers has become stricter when it comes to coupons (remember, she was just the cashier, but she sees things first hand).  And I am sure we all know why this new policy has come to be, it has a lot to do with the shelf clearers.  From what she was saying it isn't the coupons themselves that they have a problem with, it is the fact that they can't keep their shelves stocked for the rest of the customers so people are being forced to shop else ware.  They are also having a big problem with people who are copying printable coupons and using them, this is ILLEGAL, you are basically shop lifting if you do this because the store will not get reimbursed for that coupon, which will start a whole lot of things to happen, like raised prices and stricter coupon policies!!!! So if your tempted, just stop and go the other way.

The part that is causing the most confusion is where it says "Only 2 internet coupons per manufacturer per day".  I would imagine they will be tracking this somehow with your kroger card?  Some are looking at this as only 2 like coupons for the same item, and others are looking at it as 2 of the same brand, like you can only use 2 P&G brand items, and it doesn't matter if they are the same or not.  If this is the case, it looks like I can only buy one roll of toilet paper and one roll of papertowels a day (that is if I want to buy just the P&G brand items).

With my family of 10, this is going to make it hard to coupon for my family AND get what we need.  I think that the new policy would make it hard for any size household, especially someone who only goes to the store once a week.  I know that with this new policy, if my Krogers (the only grocery store in my little town) enforces this policy I will be forced to driver further or shop daily hoping I can buy enough.  And the second option just sounds exhausting.

Kroger coupon policy

Rumor has it that Krogers has finally finalized their new coupon policy, but it is not on their site yet. It sounds like it will be limiting the number of coupons that one person can use in a day.  I will keep my eyes out for the policy and check with my local Krogers store for more details.

Updates to come!

P&G coupon changes!!!

Take a close look at the bottom of your P&G coupons, there is a change, in bright red letters.

"LIMIT 4 LIKE COUPONS in the same shopping trip"

Now you may be asking "what the heck does that mean???". Let me try and explain.  First we will cover the "4 like coupons part" this means exactly what it says, you can only use 4 of the same P&G coupons.  So for this coupon I could only buy 4 bounty paper towels, anything more than this that I would purchase I could not use a coupon for. But now if I had 4 more coupons (that are exactly the same) for Charmin toilet paper (another P&G brand) I could use those also and/or if I had 4 coupons for bounty paper towels that are different from the first 4 then I could use those also.
So my basket could look like this:

  • 12 rolls bounty paper towels and 4 packages charmin toilet paper.

And the coupons I would use are:

  • 4 - .25 cents off one bounty paper towels (for 4 rolls of paper towels)
  • 4 - .25 cents off one charmin product
  • 4 - $1 off 2 bounty paper towels (for the other 8 rolls of paper towels)
Make sense?

Now on to the second part "same shopping trip".  This is different from "per transaction" we have seen in the past.  With per transaction we were able to separate coupons into different transactions.  With "same shopping trip" it doesn't matter how you separate things, you can only use 4 coupons then you go home and come back later. And if you are a considerate couponer, you will come back another day.

Remember: that the more we try and minipulate and stretch the terms and coupon policies, the stricter they will become making it harder and harder to use coupons.  Also remember to check the coupon policies at the store(s) you are shopping at, they may also have limits and restrictions you need to follow in addition to the terms on the coupons.

It's Sunday

It's coupon day, time to run out and buy your papers.

I get asked all the time, how do you get so many coupons?  Well here are a couple methods.

The first and most common is buy multiple Sunday papers.  How many you ask? Well that depends and a couple things.  How much do you plan on buying? How big is your family? What are you buying for (just your family or also for giving to charity/food banks)? What kinds of coupons are in the paper this week?

For me I normally buy 3-4 newspapers a week. This week I am only going to buy 2. Why? Well based on the coupons that are in the paper, there are not many that really interest me, not that I won't use them.  Now last week there were some good dog food and formula coupons in the paper, so I bought 4, the week before that there were 6 inserts in my local paper, and many of the coupons were for products I used every day, so I went over my norm and bought 5 papers.

Another way of getting coupons is through social networking, aka, asking friends and neighbors to save the coupons they don't use.  With social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, it is very easy to get out the word that you will take any unwanted coupons. I also use this method, the only problem with this is that you can end up with a bunch of picked over coupons, left overs. I am very grateful for the coupons that I get from friends, they allow me to do a lot of couponing for charity and also help supplement coupons for my large family. But I still buy papers so I can be sure to get all the coupons I need for my family.

And finally, dumpster diving.  Many people read these words and think, "eeeewwww, never!".  I admit to being one of those people, until the day I stopped by the local recycling center and realized it is basically just a matter of looking though some papers.  I take a pair of rubber cleaning gloves with me, just in case, and just sort through what is reachable and on top.  No you do not have to actually go into a dumpster full of everyone's trash and last night's left overs.  This is not something I do regularly, but if I am low on coupons, or there was a good insert that came out in the last couple weeks and I am passing by, I may stop just to see what is on top.  A couple words of advice, if your recycling center is outdoors, don't go if it has been raining, and be sure to check the dates on the coupons before you take them to be sure they are not expired.

Now there are many other ways to get coupons, like printing off the internet, but I will cover that in another post.

Have you found a creative way to build your coupon collection?  Don't hesitate to share it with us.

Welcome

I would like welcome everone to my new blog!!!

In this blog I'm going to share all the ways I save money. Some are great and others are a little crazy, but they all save money.  With a large family I have been forced to learn many frugal things over the years and I would like to share them with you.  I live by 2 motto's, #1 was something my grandmother always use to tell me, "waste not, want not". and #2 is a lesson just about everyone learns soon after leaving the comfort of their parents "buy used, save the difference!".

I will share my tips on everything from parenting, to cooking, cloth diapering, cleaning, sewing, knitting, crocheting, homeschooling on a tight budget, and of course my favorite hobby EXTREME COUPONING!!!

I hope you all enjoy and learn something new.  Don't be afraid to comment or share any tips you have.
